Pillows for the Bedroom

I finally added a tad bit more to our master bedroom (ha, only bedroom!). Remember, I'm in the process of making it lovely? If you've missed out, you can check on it here, here, and here.

I have been eyeing this fabric at Jo-ann's for quite some time. You know I won't pay $30 per yard. (Maybe someday when I make lots of money. Oh wait.... I'm a teacher.) The waiting and quest of finding the ideal pattern paid off. I scored big time.  Finally, the upholstery was 60% off! Hellllo! I love a good sale! I bought a yard of the paisley print and sewed two small pillowcases for my Crate and Barrel pillow inserts that I already owned. Total price for the two pillows, 12 dollars. With a coupon, gift card, and a little cash I bought the ruffle pillow at Pier One that I've been eyeing ever since I worked there. Perfect combination! And boy, do I love it!

I hope you're not intimidated by sewing. If you don't have a sewing machine...

1. I think you should get one.
2. They're not that scary to use, promise!

Here's how I sewed my pillowcases. The professionals would roll their eyes...

I used my old pillowcase for measurement.

I first cut two equal squares.
Then I sewed 3 sides together, outsides facing in with a half inch seam.

Next, I turned the fabric inside out and put the pillow insert in the case.
After that I pinned and sewed it shut.
(Shhh! I know it's ugly but no one will see this seam, it's on the bottom.)
Wa-la!

Yes, I should have put a zipper on it or hand stitched it but seriously, who has the time for that!
(Don't be fooled it's on my to-do list of learning.)

Surprisingly, I love making my bed each morning now. Weird, right? My favorite colors lighten up the room. This picture makes it seem more goldeny than in actuality. You'll just have to stop over to see what it looks like in person! Here's to falling in love with my sleeping quarters!

Here's another pillow making idea that may be useful. The cool thing about it? You don't have to use a sewing machine!

Question of the Day: How did I learn to sew pillows?

Answer: By making little bean bags and Barbie pillows. Cute, huh?

A Gift for a Little One

We are so blessed to have friends with little ones. Recently, we celebrated a first birthday with our special friend, Ellie. I knew she would be getting lots of goodies, because they always do at that age. Of course, I wanted to make something special for her. Kinda like when I personalized this gift for another little friend.

Talk about the best birthday suit ever!

I am in the process of creating/sewing quiet time books for children. (The Mr. thinks it might take me 10+ years, it just might.) They are very time consuming. Thanks to Etsy, I've come across easier and quicker ideas. I chose to sew a crayon roll up for part of her birthday gift. I used some good ole Amy Butler fabric I had on hand and some felt. After a little planning and sewing, I ended up with a little treat that would fit perfectly in a diaper bag or her mom's purse.

I'm pretty sure you could make this without Mr. Sewing Machine. A little hemming tape will do the  trick. What other children gift ideas do you have? Please share!

Fabric Love= Amy Butler

My mom loves fabric! She does! And because of this she has taught me about it. Well not really taught me but showed me. Her favorites include Ana Marie Horner and Amy Butler. I've kinda grabbed on to Amy Butler. Her bright fun graphics are "wow" worthy. You might think they are too crazy but let them grow on you. Take a look at some lovely items.

These photos scream lake cottage, having babies, and complete awesomeness to me!

If you think you're ready for summer check out her lifestyle photos. You will oow and ahh over them. Promise! Ready for a tour of her house, see it here.

Wondering where to buy her fabric? Here's where I have in the past, love this online store! Where can you buy her sewing patterns and other items? See here! Don't want to fuss with sewing? Type Amy Butler into Etsy. Options are endless! Go have some fun.

Here are some pictures of how my mom brought a little Amy Butler into her spaces.

This is my old bedroom at my parents. Amy Butler window panels and pillows.

And a big lumbar pillow curtesy of A.B. fabric.

I love this gum drop foot stool my mom made!

Intended to be my bridesmaids gifts but weren't as quick and easy as expected.

Love this bag, I may steal it next time I'm home.

I did use Amy Butler fabric for coozies I gave as a welcome gift to guests at our wedding.

Just recently checked out Always in Stitches in Noblesville, IN. They have her stuff. I nearly flipped.

Oh Amy Butler, she knows what she's doing!

Mmm maybe a fabric designer series in the works...
